SANKHALI: The Congress party intensified its organisational outreach in North Goa over the weekend, holding workers’ meetings in Valpoi, Poriem and Sankhali aimed at strengthening the party at the grassroots level and mobilising support ahead of future political challenges.
A Karyakarta Melava of the Valpoi and Poriem blocks was held under the leadership of Mhadei District Congress President Mangaldas Naik, bringing together party workers, office-bearers and senior leaders. The meeting focused on organisational strengthening, expanding public outreach and reinforcing the party structure across the region.
Addressing the gathering, Manikrao Thakare stressed the importance of maintaining a strong grassroots presence and urged workers to stay connected with public issues. GPCC President Girish Chodankar called for collective efforts to strengthen the Congress in Goa and reiterated the party’s commitment to protecting public interests.
Other leaders who addressed the gathering included Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Pratiksha Khalap, Pradeep Naik and Shashank Narvekar.
A separate Sankhali Block Congress Committee meeting was held in the presence of Manikrao Thakare, AICC Secretary and Co-Incharge Anjali Nimbalkar, Girish Chodankar and other party leaders.
During the meeting, Chodankar launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, alleging that the state government’s policies were compromising Goa’s interests. He accused the government of allowing excessive outside influence over Goa’s land and resources.
Manikrao Thakare also raised concerns over an alleged cash-for-jobs recruitment scam, claiming that deserving candidates seeking government employment had suffered injustice. He said corruption in recruitment undermines merit and transparency and urged Congress workers to continue highlighting issues of corruption and governance.
Addressing party workers, Anjali Nimbalkar called for stronger engagement with the public and urged Congress members to actively raise issues concerning youth, farmers, women and other vulnerable sections of society.
Both meetings concluded with party leaders and workers reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the Congress organisation and expanding its presence across North Goa and the state.
