CURCHOREM: A Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS) was inaugurated by local MLA and Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral during the function held at Ravindra Bhavan Hall, Curchorem, on Wednesday.
“The four systems which JSW Foundation sponsors will be installed at four locations in Goa, namely at Dudhsagar, Colva and Baga in North Goa” Cabral announced this in the presence of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) Chairperson Dr Jasmine Braganza, Member Secretary of Goa Pollution Control Board Sharmila Monteiro, Director Pradip Naik and JSW representative Anurag.
He said that once the mining activities started, the CAAQMS would be installed in all the mining belt areas to monitor dust pollution and in tourism places to monitor sound pollution. “There are complains of rising pollution levels, particularly sound pollution in tourism belt areas, and these instruments will automatically monitor and display live pollution data, which will help to take suitable precautions to arrest the pollution surge,” said Cabral.
According to Cabral, it will initially install at four places at approximately Rs.60 lakhs and analyses parameters Sox Nox PM10, PM2.5, CO Ozone Noise Temperature and Humidity pressure and managed by Goa Pollution Control Board. “Once the mining activities start in the State, it will be compulsorily installed in all the mining belts to monitor dust pollution and tourism belt areas to monitor noise pollution. The aim is to make an area-based action plan to understand the pollution sources and ascertain its levels so that it is effectively monitored, give good results and control pollution,” assured Cabral.
“People have to run before authorities to obtain various permissions in their busy schedule of marriage, and therefore the government will find out a permanent solution to give all the permissions through a single window,” said Cabral commenting on the difficulties faced by the people during the celebration of wedding ceremonies particularly in the open air halls.
