PANAJI: The Crime Branch of Goa Police on Thursday carried out a state-wide verification drive at scrap yards across Goa as part of preventive policing and internal security measures aimed at identifying illegal immigrants and persons working without valid documents.
A total of nine Crime Branch teams were deployed simultaneously across the state and inspected 48 scrap yards located in areas including Mapusa, Colvale, Porvorim, Betim, Margao, Davorlim, Dicarpale, Zuarinagar, Cortalim and other locations.
The operation commenced at around 11 am and continued across multiple locations. During the drive, police teams verified identity documents and personal details of workers and labourers employed at the establishments.
According to the Crime Branch, 172 persons, including women workers, were verified during the exercise. Scrap yard owners and managers were directed to maintain proper records of their workers, verify identity documents before employment, and promptly report any suspicious individuals or activities to the police.
The Crime Branch said the verification drive will continue on Friday as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen security and ensure compliance with legal documentation requirements.
The operation was supervised by SP Jivba Dalvi under the overall supervision of SP Crime Rahul Gupta, IPS.
