CURCHOREM: Residents have voiced strong concerns over the alleged transportation of hazardous waste from Cuncolim to Pissurlem, claiming that the material is being moved without adequate safety precautions and necessary safeguards.
According to local reports, residents objected to the movement of the suspected toxic waste through the town in open trucks, alleging that the transportation process lacked proper containment measures. They demanded that the material be shifted only in sealed containers and handled using scientific methods to avoid potential risks to public health and the environment.
It is reported that nearly 50,000 tonnes of hazardous material are proposed to be transported to a designated treatment facility. Locals also alleged that several truck operators engaged in the transportation were not fully informed about the possible dangers associated with the waste being carried.
Residents have appealed to the government and concerned authorities to immediately halt what they described as unsafe transportation practices and to enforce strict safety protocols before allowing further movement of the material.
