MARGAO: In a scathing critique, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, has slammed the state’s BJP government for summoning a two-day assembly session, labeling it a “mockery of democracy” and an attempt to evade pressing issues.
Alemao took to social media to express his discontent, stating that the decision to curtail the assembly session to just two days is a clear indication of the government’s fear of facing critical issues and its intent to further undermine democratic principles.
His tweet sparked a wave of criticism from other opposition members, who echoed his sentiments about the government’s alleged attempts to sidestep accountability.
“This is not just a reduction in the duration of the assembly session; it is a deliberate attempt to stifle the voice of the opposition and the people of Goa,” Alemao said.
He argued that a two-day session is insufficient to address the myriad issues plaguing the state, including the ongoing controversy over the “Cash for Jobs”, “Siddiqui escape”, ‘Smart City’ project, decline in tourism, and other critical matters that require thorough discussion and debate.
Alemao’s condemnation also highlights the broader political landscape in Goa, where the opposition has been vocal about the government’s handling of various projects and policies.
The abbreviated assembly session has been seen as a tactic to avoid detailed scrutiny of such contentious issues. “By limiting the session to just two days, the government is essentially gagging the opposition and preventing a thorough examination of its policies and actions,” Alemao emphasized.
