PANAJI: In a remarkable display of athletic prowess, Shree Mallikarjun College, Cancona, emerged victorious in both the men’s and women’s categories of the Kho-Kho Inter-Collegiate Championship 2024-25, organized by Goa University. The tournament, held at the S.A.G. Kho-Kho Courts, Fatorda Sports Complex, from January 21 to 23, 2025, saw intense competition among the participating colleges.
The men’s finals were a highlight of the event, with Shree Mallikarjun College securing a decisive win over C.E.S. College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim, with a final score of 27-17. In the women’s finals, Shree Mallikarjun College continued their dominance by defeating GVM’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce & Economics, Farmagudi, with a score of 14-12.
The path to the finals was equally challenging. In the men’s semifinals, Shree Mallikarjun College edged out Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Quepem, with a narrow margin of 10-9. Meanwhile, C.E.S. College, Cuncolim, defeated SSA’s Government College of Arts & Commerce, Pernem, with a score of 15-7. The women’s semifinals saw Shree Mallikarjun College triumph over C.E.S. College, Cuncolim, with a score of 20-14, and GVM’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College, Farmagudi, beating Government College, Quepem, with a score of 10-4.
Individual accolades were also awarded during the tournament. Mr. Pravesh Velip of C.E.S. College, Cuncolim, was recognized as the Best Player in the men’s category, while Ms. Sweta Velip of Shree Mallikarjun College, Cancona, took home the Best Player award in the women’s category.
The tournament drew participation from 11 men’s and 11 women’s teams, making it a vibrant and competitive event. The presentation ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Prof. Theotone Vaaz, Principal of GVM’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce and Economics, Farmagudi, and Guest of Honor Mr. Rajesh Naik, among other dignitaries.
The winning teams from Shree Mallikarjun College included notable players such as Mahendra Gaonkar, Kalpesh Velip, and Sweta Velip, who played pivotal roles in their college’s double triumph.
