CANDOLIM: In view of the rising crimes in the northern coastal belt, the Candolim panchayat, under the leadership of Sarpanch Blaise Fernandes, has decided to bring the entire panchayat area under CCTV surveillance, which would help police to detect illegal/ criminal activities.
The initiative has been taken by the Sarpanch and panchayat members of Village Panchayat Candolim, which could help secure the residents as well as businesses in its jurisdiction.
Blaise informed that around 18 360 CCTV cameras would be fitted at important junctions, markets, beaches etc.
“The connection would be direct to the panchayat as well as teh Calangute police station,” he told Goemkarponn.
Blaise said that though Candolim has not seen any major criminal activity of late, it is always better to take protective measures.
“The cables have been laid, and the cameras will be fitted in the next few days. Before the December season, the entire work of installations would be complete,” he said.
Blaise said that the camera will be fitted from Shimer to Sinquerim and Nerul to Saipem.
“These are high-resolution cameras, and we feel every panchayat today in the tourist places need to have such a facility given the rising number of crimes,” he said.
