PANAJI: Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane said that they have explored the possibility of involving external agencies in managing properties under the Forest Department, such as the Mollem Sanctuary, Bondla Zoo, and bird sanctuaries.
“We are committed to ensuring that each of our departments operates at full capacity to deliver optimal results and services. In line with this objective, I recently conducted a review meeting with Forest Department officials to assess the progress across various verticals. During the discussions, the Wildlife Management Plan was also a key focus, considering its significance for Goa,” said Rane
He further said that Instructions were given to the department to expedite the development of a comprehensive policy and management plan to ensure its effective implementation.
Furthermore, Rane said that they explored the possibility of involving external agencies in managing properties under the Forest Department, such as the Mollem Sanctuary, Bondla Zoo, and bird sanctuaries. This approach will facilitate proper management and enable us to deliver high-quality services.
“To prioritize safety, I have instructed the officials to identify high and medium-risk areas and deploy lifeguards to ensure people’s well-being. Additionally, we will plan more activities and initiatives to attract people and allow them to enjoy the forest’s uniqueness during the monsoon season. Drawing inspiration from other states that have implemented proactive measures, we assigned our research team to study and follow up on these initiatives,” he added
Rane said that their findings will guide us in implementing similar measures within our system. Additionally, I reviewed the ongoing facelift of Bondla Zoo and emphasized the need for strict measures to protect and safeguard turtle nesting sites along our coast. Research, training, and extension activities are crucial for the scientific management of forests and wildlife.
“We will prioritize strengthening these aspects and enhancing in-house capacity building. For the next review meeting, I instructed all officials to prepare presentations focusing on their specific verticals, highlighting ways to improve departmental operations and invigorate various activities within it,” he added
