MAPUSA: Mohammad Basheed Khan of Delhi, the fourth culprit in the gang that reportedly extorted Rs 30 lakh from a Mapusa businessman by posing as a Delhi Narcotic Bureau inspector, was taken into custody by Mapusa police.
After learning that the accused was about to depart the nation and go abroad, Mapusa police set up a trap in Delhi and took him into custody.
After being taken to Goa, he was arrested and remanded to police detention for five days by a Mapusa court. In this case, police are searching for additional suspects.
When suspects posing as representatives of the Delhi-based Narcotics Bureau raided the complainant’s Mapusa house in August 2023, the extortion occurred. After the plaintiff was assaulted, the businessman was blackmailed into paying Rs 30 lakh.
Two suspects, Nivedita Sharma and Bhuvan Arora, were taken into custody on March 30 after the victim came to the police, while Faizan Khan was taken into custody on June 21.
Additionally, the group was charged with operating a “sextortion” ring. The gang used to use girls as part of their scheme to target wealthy businessmen. They would allegedly coerce wealthy individuals into engaging in lewd activities and then demand money from them after threatening to harm their reputation.
