CANACONA: Hundreds of Cumeri farmers from Canacona attended a meeting held at Gaondongrem by Gawada Kunbi Velip Dhangar Federation (GAKUVED) on Sunday.
A total of 343 Cumeri cultivators from Gaondongrem and Khola panchayat areas of Canacona Taluka attended the meet held on Sunday in Gaondongrem Village Panchayat hall to resolve long pending issues of the Cumeri cultivators.
Most of the farmers practising farming Cumeri plots in Canacona have not got Sanad, and a panel of senior advocates and legal advisors are appointed to take the fight of the Cumeri farmers to its logical end, the committee of GAKUVED said.
GAKUVED federation central committee members Uday Vasu Gaonkar (Vice President), Rupesh Velip(General Secretary), Ravindra Velip(Vice-president), Durgadas Gaonkar (Ex-President), Govind Shirodkar(founder member), Ramakrishna Jalmi (Convenor- Kul-Mundkaracho Ekvott), Nitesh Velip(Canacona Block President), Sandesh Gaonkar(Sanguem block-president), Siddhesh Velip(Secretary Quepem Block) and GAKUVED all Taluka committee member were present.
Ashok Bhiva Velip ex. Serpanch and chairman of FRC committee Gaondongrem were also present.
Civil service officers such as Ajay Gaude (Deputy- Collector north Goa), Shankar Gaonkar (Director Sports Authority of Goa), Sagun Velip (Director of Art and Culture )were present as resource persons during the meeting.
The detailed procedures for forest rights and challenges for settlement of FRC cases were also discussed.
Ashok Bhiva Velip (ex. Serpanch of Gaondongrem VP) expressed his anger and pointed out why the Cumeri cases are still pending even after so many years. All procedure for issue of Sanad was done in the year 2009.
During the meeting, it was unanimously resolved to submit a memorandum to the District collector south Goa, Chief Minister and Revenue minister to issue Sanad to all the pending Cumeri cultivators by
taking necessary decisions at their end within one month. Suppose the government and its authorities fail to act on the memorandum. In that case, the Cumeri cultivators shall protest in public and seek a legal course of action to execute the above resolution and take necessary follow-up action.
