PANAJI: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that Goa Medical College (GMC) is set to expand its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) capacity from the existing 15 beds to 30 beds.
“Goa Medical College (GMC) is set to expand its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) capacity from the existing 15 beds to 30 beds, further strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure,” said Rane
He further said that this significant enhancement aims to cater to the increasing demand for specialized neonatal care, ensuring that critically ill newborns receive timely and advanced medical attention.
“This decision was recently taken during discussions on enhancing the Pediatric and Neonatal Resource Centre (PNRC) to provide timely care and early interventions for children, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving pediatric healthcare facilities in Goa,” he added
Rane said that through programs like the iBreastExam device, a radiation-free tool for lump detection, Goa is leading the way in cancer care with early screening.
