PANAJI: Goa saw 166 Cybercrime cases in the last 3 years from 2020 to 2022 as per the data released by National Crime Records Bureau(NCRB).
Although 98 persons were arrested and 60 persons were charge sheeted not a single person was convicted in Cybercrime cases in the last 3 years.
The Cybercrime cases in Goa increased from 36 in 2021 to 90 in 2022.
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said that Citizen Financial Cyber Frauds Reporting and Management System has been developed as a part of the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal, the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) said.
MHA said that this module provides an integrated platform where all stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies of states/UTs, all major banks and financial intermediaries, payment wallets, crypto exchanges and e- commerce companies, work in tandem to ensure that quick, decisive.
“A system-based effective action is taken to prevent the flow of money from the victim’s account to the cyber fraudster’s account. The money thus seized is then restored to the victim following due legal process,” MHA said
Goa has also recorded a 300% rise in cyber crime cases since 2020, statistics of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
CM Sawant had also cautioned the youth about rising cases of cybercrime and urged them not to fall prey to the ‘trap’.
Sawant said, “Cyber safety is very important now a days. People are getting trapped in it. Young people are getting trapped in it. They should not fall prey to cyber traps.”
