PANAJI: The Goa government is considering withdrawing plots allotted to companies in the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) that have failed to make progress on their proposed projects, Information Technology Minister Rohan Khaunte has said.
Speaking about the status of the cluster, Khaunte said the majority of the plots have already been allotted. However, a departmental review found that some companies have neither started construction nor initiated manufacturing activities even after more than two years of receiving possession.
He said the government had repeatedly given these firms time to begin work but several allottees were yet to even lay the foundation for their units.
Khaunte said the Directorate concerned has already initiated the process of reviewing such cases and that the government is now preparing to take stricter action against non-performing allottees.
He said companies that fail to commence operations within the final deadline could have their allotments cancelled, following which the land would be resumed by the government.
The minister emphasised that the plots were earmarked to promote electronics manufacturing in the state and should be utilised for the intended purpose rather than lying idle.
He added that once the land is recovered, the government would consider reallocating it to investors who are ready to establish manufacturing units and contribute to Goa’s industrial development.
