CANACONA – Expressing his desire to tour each panchayat, Governor Shridharan Pillai, on his Goa Sampurna Yatra, distributed financial assistance to 25 dialysis patients of Canacona.
‘”Service to the people amounts to service to God; service to Bharat Mata will assist in making a self-reliant Goa and ultimately give us a self-reliant India”, Governor Pillai said in his address, expressing his inability to speak in Goan mother tongue-Konkani.
“I wish to visit each of Panchayat’s in Goa and, particularly being my 4th to Canacona taluka, will come again and again to Canacona when time permits,” he said.
Speaking further Governor said, when Goa Sampurna Yatra was started 6 months ago, as part of PM’s 71st birthday celebration, it was decided to go to the people and distribute financial assistance to 71 dialysis patients and institutions.
“However, till now, we have distributed financial assistance to over 200 Dialysis patients and over 100 Institutions,” Governor said, stating this is not his normal or routine function, but he finds pleasure and strongly believes that serving the people is as good ss praying before the God’.
Earlier, Governor Pillai interacted with the Sarpanchs of Khola, Agonda and Shrishthal at Shrishthal panchayat hall, and Loliem-Polem, Poinguinim, Gaondongrim and Khotigao at Forest Guest House, Poinguinim, before visiting Shri Mallikarjun temple (Shrishthal)and Shri Parshuram Temples (Poinguinim).
“I was a lawyer with 35 years of experience, and I know people are supreme, not the bureaucrats nor the politicians, nor Governors, Vice- President or President. Goa is a gift of God; beautiful places, temples, churches, mosques,” he said.
Financial assistance was distributed to Dialysis patients- Rakshatta Pagui, Satyavan Pagi, Suchana Velip, Yashoda, Krutiya Pagi, Reginald DSouza, Suryaji Pagi, Delphina Mascarenhas, Sarita, Constancia Barretto, Khushali, Neelima Pagi, Samidha,
Pillai further regretted saying, “I am pained to understand that Canacona has the highest number of Dialysis patients.”
Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar also spoke, while Khola Sarpanch Poorna Nayak listed some issues bugging the Canacona residents on, Network, Roads, Water and Electricity, besides some issues in completion of developmental works and sought Governor’s assistance to resolve the same.
Three petitions were submitted to the Governor by Shrishthal panch Rajesh Gaonkar, Livia Sanju Naik and Agonda panch Pramod Phaldessai.
Also present were Additional Collector Surendra Naik, Canacona Dy Collector Udhay Prabhudessai, Mihir Vardhan (Secretary to Governor), Canacona Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar.
Shrishthal Sarpanch Ramu Naik welcomed, Khola panchayat panchayat’s Shanu Velip, welcome song by Students of JNV Canacona, while Shrishthal function was compeered by Shrishthal panch Pandurang (Datta) Gaonkar and Vote of thanks, Ganesh Gaonkar.
