PANAJI: Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has ordered closure of 7 Food Business Operators including one bar, 3 café and 3 restaurants at Colva. The FBOs were earlier issued show cause notices for violating pollution related guidelines.
The directives were issued under Section 33(A) read with Section 25/26 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and Section 31(A) read with Section 21 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, by GSPCB Member Secretary Dr. Shamila Monteiro.
The GSPCB Member Secretary noted in separate orders that, in accordance with Sections 25/26 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and Section 21 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, the Pollution Control Board grants consent to establish or to operate to various units or establishments.
The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act of 1974 and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act of 1981 were further cited as being violated by operating a unit or establishment without the Board’s valid Consent to Establish/Consent to Operate.
According to the GSPCB Member Secretary, a review of the records that are on file with the Board in the current cases shows that these units have been operating in flagrant violation of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act of 1974 and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act of 1981 by operating without the Board’s valid Consent to Operate.
