PRVORIM: Advocate General Devidas Pangam told the High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday during the ongoing hearing of a Public Interest Litigation regarding the dust pollution and public inconvenience caused by ongoing work on the Porvorim flyover that a 600-meter stretch near the Hyundai showroom is still untarred.
In order to confirm the precise stretch that had not been hotmixed, the Bench instructed the PWD engineer, who was in the courtroom, to visit the site with the contractor, who was also present during the hearing.
The government told the Division Bench of Justices M S Karnik and Nivedita Mehta during the previous hearing on January 6 that 60–70% of compliance measures had been finished; however, important issues like the full-fledged deployment of traffic marshals and the hot-mixing of specific road stretches to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce pollution were still pending.
After that, the High Court gave the contractor explicit instructions to finish the outstanding work and turn in the compliance report within a week.
The intervenor, meantime, asked to be added as a party on Monday in order to provide a thorough affidavit. After accepting the request, the Division Bench gave petitioner Adv. Moses Pinto in-person instructions to finish the impleadment process in eight weeks. Pinto promised to quickly change the petition’s cause title.
Concerns over impeded drainage as a result of ongoing excavation activities were mentioned in an intervention petition submitted by inhabitants of Porvorim at the most recent session. The Court ordered the PWD to provide a thorough schedule for the completion of the drainage work within four weeks.
The next hearing for additional instructions has been set for January 14 by the court.
