CANDOLIM: The High Court has issued notices to the state government, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and other respondents in a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the Calangute Constituency Forum concerning alleged violations at Survey No. 112/19 in Candolim.
The petition challenges what it alleges to be large-scale unauthorised construction, ecological damage to coastal sand dunes and the commercial conversion of prime beachfront property into a luxury resort named “King’s Mansion.”
The petitioners have raised concerns over the alleged violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms and the impact of the construction on the ecologically sensitive coastal landscape.
The High Court’s notices seek responses from the state authorities and other respondents on the allegations raised in the PIL.
The matter relates to the development of the Candolim property and alleged alteration of the site for commercial use. The petition has brought the alleged destruction of sand dunes and the legality of the construction under judicial scrutiny.
The case is expected to bring greater focus on compliance with CRZ regulations and the protection of Goa’s coastal sand dunes, particularly in areas witnessing rapid tourism and real estate development.
