PANAJI: The second wave of COVID19 pandemic has hit the State and the country badly with several thousands o people being killed by the deadly virus every day.
Even during these uncertain times, people have not understood what humanity stands for.
As per the expert, many Hindu crematoriums are still not allowing cremations of COVID19 victims fearing spread of the virus in community.
Dr Madhu Ghodkirekar, Associate Prof. GMT, GMC posted in public interest / Incharge South Goa District Hospital Forensic dept says the situation is grim.
“For Christians and Muslims in Goa, there is no problems of burial ground for Covid death but Hindu relatives are facing hurdle as their respective Smashanbhumi committee are not allowing cremations at their places,” he says.
Dr Madhu says the end result they are waiting for two days to get funeral slot at Margao crematorium.
“It is real suffering for the relatives, this can be settled only if local bodies and representatives takes responsibilities. This is least help people are expecting in most difficult time of their life. Many people call us to arrange beds for patients but when same person dies, the phone unreachable,” he says.
He further salutes the Panchayat members who helped grieved family members by providing his ambulance for transporting mortal remains of Covid positive patient.
“At the same time South Goa Collector has taken note of news item for municipality hearse van being not allowed for Covid dead bodies. No one can and no one should deny their just because they are covid positives,” he says.
MLA Prasad Gaonkar, Ex MLA Prasad Gaonkar, MLA Reginald have started providing their personal hearse van for covid death from their localities, he says.
Dr Madhu says it is time that others also start providing their hearse van for covid death from their localities. It is moral duty of people’s representatives to see that hat their voters get dignified final rites.
