PANAJI: The Directorate of Transport has threatened severe action, including fines in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, for car owners who have failed to comply with the otherwise necessary High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).
As part of the pan-India campaign, the HSRP rule, which has been in existence for more than five years, was implemented to deter auto theft and encourage uniformity.
Director of Transport Pravimal Abhishek said in a public notice released on Saturday that RTO officers discovered that a number of vehicle owners had not yet complied with this requirement during field inspections. They are therefore instructed to guarantee HSRP fitment as soon as possible, with the option to have it completed by any licensed dealer.
“The department has permitted car dealers to do the HSRP affixation in order to expedite this process. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ official website, www.siam.in, is where orders for HSRP can be placed.
The notification reads, “Strict action, including penalties as prescribed under the applicable provisions of law, shall be taken in the event that this directive is not followed.”
The transport department reports that more than 40% of vehicles still do not follow the instructions. According to the official, they have now let car owners to select any licensed dealer for the retrofit in order to speed up the installation of HSRP.
The official went on to say, “The dealers are also instructed to install HSRP on all eligible vehicles, not just their company ones.”
