VASCO: With traffic congestion and water seepage emerging as concerns at the newly constructed railway underpass, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Friday conducted a joint inspection of the site along with railway officials, Water Resources Department (WRD) officials, MMC Chairperson Girish Borker and the WRD consultant.
The inspection focused on two key issues — traffic movement near the Tanya Hotel junction and the flow of underground water towards the low-lying underpass road.
Salkar and the officials examined the approach to the underpass and discussed measures to improve the movement of vehicles at the junction, particularly during peak hours. Changes to traffic regulation, along with additional enforcement and infrastructure measures, are being considered to ease congestion in the area.
The team also inspected the water seepage affecting the newly constructed road. WRD officials and the consultant examined the underground water flow and existing pipelines beneath the road.
According to Salkar, additional arrangements will be required to strengthen the road over the pipelines and bring the stretch to the required level. Plans are also being considered to create suitable infrastructure to control the underground water flow before it reaches the underpass road.
The proposed measures are aimed at managing the natural flow of water while protecting the newly constructed road from continued seepage and possible damage.
The joint inspection brought together the railway authorities, WRD and MMC to work on a coordinated solution, with both traffic management and water-related concerns requiring intervention along the same stretch.
Salkar said the two issues needed to be addressed together and that the proposed works would have to take into account both traffic movement and the underground water flow. The concerned departments will coordinate on the technical requirements before the necessary works are taken up.
