KERI: The proprietor of an adventure sports company has been taken into custody by the Mandrem police in relation to the deaths of a female tourist and her instructor who were paragliding in Keri village in Pernem taluka on Saturday when they crashed into a valley.
Shekhar Raizada, 42, the proprietor of the Hike ānā Fly firm, was arrested by the police for running a paragliding business without the proper authority’s consent. Raizada is originally from Lucknow but currently resides in Bhandarwada, Paliem.
The authorities claimed that the accused intentionally put people’s lives in danger by permitting the paragliding instructor to operate without giving tourists safety equipment.
Additionally, according to the tourism administration, paragliding operations at the location have not received authorization or clearance.
According to the department, “the activity was being conducted illegally and without any authorization.”
Dharti Nagoji, the sarpanch of Keri village panchayat, recalled that the village body had decided a month earlier to put an end to paragliding in the hamlet.
The aforementioned resolution was sent to the relevant department by the panchayat. But no action was taken, according to Nagoji.
Shivani Dable, a 27-year-old Pune tourist, and Suman Nepali, a 26-year-old paragliding instructor, perished in an accident on Saturday when the line broke in midair.
