SHIRODA: WRD Min Subhash Shirodkar today said that the land acquisition process for the new Borim bridge is to be completed by October 20 while stating land losers will be duly compensated.
“Land acquisition process for new Borim bridge to be completed by Oct 20; minimum land to be acquired; land losers to be duly compensated; no much opposition to new bridge from Borim side,” said Shirodkar.
He further said that the land acquisition process is almost in the final stages and after the process is done, the consultant appointed will start the next process.
“The consultant appointed will start the next process which is designing and other aspects of the project. Government is aiming to acquire minimum land for the project,” he added.
The minister said that whatever land will be utilised and taken for the project, the land losers will be duly compensated.
Union Ministry Of Road Transport And Highways (MoRTH) has already issued a notification for the acquisition of 39.3184 hectares (3,93,184 sq mtrs) for the construction of a new, high-level Borim Bridge, along with approaches across River Zuari and a Bypass on NH 566. The length of the proposed bypass is 5.73 Km.
The new bridge will connect Borim in Ponda taluka to Angadi, Loutolim in Salcete via Murme ward of Borim and is considered to be a necessity for vehicular transport, especially for heavy vehicles, between the talukas of Ponda and Salcete.
The existing 37-year-old bridge sees thousands of commuters pass by on a daily basis.
It may be recalled that concerns regarding the land acquisition have already been raised over this issue with locals from Loutolim village for instance, following which a decision was taken by the Loutolim panchayat to convene a special gram sabha, where this would be the single item that would be taken up.
