PONDA: In a shocking incident a, Dabal –Ponda route passenger bus turned turtle and fell off the narrow road at Bethora today morning.
The bus carrying around 20 passengers, most of whom were college students met with the accident at around 7.15 am today morning.
The injured have been shifted to sub-district hospital Ponda. Further details are awaited.
Locals said that accidents are a common place occurrence on this narrow road stretch and demanded that proper road engineering work be taken up to avoid any further mishaps.
Around four injured were shifted to GMC said Chandrakant Samant Panchmember of Bethora who also took part in rescue operation. The accident occured at at 7.30 am today.
Following the accidents beside passengers and senior citizens around 15 students learning at Ponda ITI and Colleges at Farmagudi. Some recieved neck injuries, some fractures on legs and hands and various body parts giving pain on their bodies.
According to driver Gautam Naik he lost control over vehicles when plates of Excel broken following which he lost control, bus jumped and fell in the field on its side.
Cooperation Minister Suabash Shirodkar visited Ponda SDH and met all the injured from Dabal, Nirankar , Bethora and asked about their well being.
Minister Subash Shirodkar said the driver need to drive buses carefully. He said the narrow road and Culvert at accident site will be improvised.
The locals recalled horrific accident at site when bus dashed te bike rider and fell in nullah due to which one bethora local had died. There is growing demand from locals to improvise the narrow road and Culvert at Bindde Bethora.
The widening work was taken by government however it was halted by landowner said the locals.
