PANAJI: Government aims to provide free electricity to households by facilitating the installation of rooftop solar panels informed Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy Resources, Ramkrishna alias SudinDhavlikar while addressing the gathering after inaugurating the 2- days training Programme on ‘PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ (Grid Connected Solar Rooftop systems) in Panaji.
Speaking further he said that the scheme offers a subsidy of up to 40 percent to households, making renewable energy more affordable and accessible.
The training Programme was organized by National Power Training Institute, Ministry of Power, Government of India.
The Central Government has implemented the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ to empower residential households to generate their own electricity and increase the share of solar rooftop capacity.
The scheme is being implemented under National Programme Implementation Agency (NPIA) at the National level and by the State Implementation Agencies (SIAs) at the State level the Minister informed.
The Minister said PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana scheme provides households with free electricity through the installation of subsidized rooftop solar panels, significantly reducing their energy costs. With the promotion of widespread use of solar power, the scheme will help the Government to save electricity costs, he said.
The scheme encourages the adoption of renewable energy sources, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy mix in India. The transition to solar energy under this scheme will help lower carbon emissions, supporting India’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, Dhavlikar added.
Chief Electrical Engineer, Department of Electricity, Stephen Fernandes while speaking said that the routine sources of energy are not sufficient and therefore we have to strive for alternative sources of energy. About PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, he said this scheme will help to generate energy by protecting the environment.
