PANAJI: A 35-year-old man was allegedly caught accepting money bets on numerical digital numbers at a public place near the KTC Bus Stand in Panaji on September 24, police said.
According to police, HC 5340 Gurudas Ghadi, on behalf of the State, lodged a complaint stating that the accused, Khaja Mainuddin Ismail Makandar, 35, a resident of Ramnagar, Reis Magos, Betim, was found allegedly accepting money bets as a game of chance from members of the public at around 3.15 pm opposite a Kerala shop at the KTC Bus Stand.
During the action, police seized Rs 1,070 in cash in different denominations along with other articles allegedly used for gambling.
Makandar was placed under arrest at around 4.35 pm on September 24 and was released at 4.55 pm the same day.
Further investigation is being conducted by HC 5340 Gurudas Ghadi of Panaji Police Station.
