Panaji: Manjita Mathkar e Vas will captain Goa as the 14th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship is all set to kick off on March 13, bringing together twenty-eight state/UT teams, including defending champions Hockey Madhya Pradesh and runners-up and hosts Maharashtra.
Scheduled to run for 11 days, the tournament will feature a league-cum-knockout format.
The championship will take place at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium in Nehru Nagar-Pimpri.
Initially, teams will compete in eight groups in a round-robin contest. The group winners will then proceed to the quarterfinals on March 20, followed by the semifinals on March 22, with the grand finale set for Sunday, March 23.
Krishna Prakash (IPS), ADG Force One, Maharashtra, and President of Hockey Maharashtra, expressed pride in the unified efforts.
Melinda D’Souza is the Goa team manager which is coached by Ayyaj Khan.
Goa is clubbed in Group E with Hockey Association of Odisha and Hockey Chandigarh. Goa will start its campaign against Odisha on March 15. Goa will play Chandigarh next on 18th.
Goa team: Geeta, Anoshka, Ruby, Anuska, Yukta, Nikita, Diksha, Aakanshi, Payal, Umra, Manisha, Ruparna, Kushi, Arti, Komal, Manjita and Kirandeep.
