VASCO: A joint inspection was carried out by Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar in Baina, along with Gammon India officials.
Amonkar gives Gammon India Pvt ltd ultimatum until May 20th to complete the 1.5 km service road, septic tanks and drains to avoid any epidemics during the Monsoon season.
On Thursday morning, Gammon India Pvt Ltd officers, Chief Officer of Mormugao municipal council, Mormugao Mamlatdar, and the Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar conducted a physical inspection of the incomplete service road stretch of 1.5 km at Baina next to Ravindra Bhavan.
During the inspection, it was observed that the drains are overflowing with sewage water, and it badly needs a septic tank. The public toilet facility near Baina beach is in shambles, and the service road which was supposed to be completed has remained incomplete to date.
After the inspection, Amonkar gave an ultimatum to the Gammon India Pvt Ltd officer R.Prabhakaran to complete the service road by May 20th. Amonkar also asked Gammon India, an officer, to build storm drains to facilitate the rainwater and used water and suggested building septic tanks for some households whose neighbourhood is unhygienic.
Later speaking to the media, R. Prabhakaran, Administrative project in charge of Gammon India Pvt Ltd, said that the complete flyover work was taken up phase-wise. The service road completion was supposed to be done last. But now that the Mormugao MLA has asked to complete the service road by May 20th, we will try to complete it.
He further added that the storm drains and septic tanks will also be built to avoid any inconveniences to the locals from the Baina beach area.
Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar stated that there is a need for a service road, proper drainage and septic tanks for the houses next to Baina beach. People live in unhygienic conditions, and to solve this issue, Gammon India Pvt Ltd should build the drains, etc., by May 20th.
Councillor Sharad Chopdekar, when contacted, said that there have been Malaria and dengue cases in the Baina beach area due to unhygienic conditions. There is a need to build proper drains, septic tanks and service roads for this area. Then the people will be happy.
