PONDA: The Nagazar Curti locals have demanded action against tenants residing in rented premises for dumping garbage into the Ponda main nullah.
Damodar Naik and other locals pointed out that the tenant made the Ponda Main nulla a dumping ground, with most tenants residing on the nullah bank at rented rooms throwing their garbage and various waste into the nullah.
Not only tenants but also the vendors in Ponda Market dump garbage at the internal nullah of the City, which finally culminates into the main nullah.
The Industries operating at Bethora also released untreated waste into the nullah.
Domestic and commercial waste has caused heavy pollution in the main nullah of Ponda.
The farmers, who depend on this nullah at the downward stream at Kavlem, Bandora, face hardship while providing polluted water to the paddy field and often cause health problems and rashes on the body when they come in contact with nullah water irrigating water to paddy crop.
Further, the highly polluted, dirty water of Ponda Main Nullah in their City itself has become an attraction with the growth of pink and white lotus blooming in the polluted, dirty water of nullah at Khadpaband -Kavlem stretch of the nullah.
According to locals, the sewerage and overflowing gutters and soak pit waste released into the nullah in City have made water dirty and been a breeding ground for the growth of lotus in the nullah.
