Panaji: In a thrilling match that highlighted the competitive spirit of the 1st Vauradencho Ixtt Trophy, Navelim SC secured a crucial 2-0 victory over St. Anthony SC Assolda, advancing to the quarterfinals of the tournament. The match, held at the DSYA ground in Curtorim, was marked by missed opportunities for St. Anthony SC Assolda and decisive goals from Navelim SC in the second half. This event was a testament to the collaborative efforts of Batora United Club and Margao Sports Club, who jointly organized the tournament.
Navelim SC’s victory was sealed with two pivotal goals in the second half. Despite early chances, both teams struggled to find the net in the first half. St. Anthony SC Assolda’s Reagen Fernandes narrowly missed a scoring opportunity in the 4th minute, while Velon Rebello of Navelim SC missed his chance in the 10th minute. The breakthrough came in the 47th minute when Anthony DSilva scored the opening goal for Navelim SC, followed by a second goal from Benson Almeida just three minutes later.
The match was part of the 1st Vauradencho Ixtt Trophy, organized by Batora United Club in association with Margao Sports Club. The event drew notable guests, including Melvin DCosta and Paul Rodrigues, who presented awards to the players. Atif Shaikh of Navelim SC was honored as the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
