MAPUSA: In a major boost to specialised healthcare services in North Goa, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has announced that a dedicated Oncology Day Care Centre for selected chemotherapy procedures will soon become operational at North Goa District Hospital.
The announcement was made during the minister’s visit to the hospital, where he conducted a detailed review of ongoing infrastructure projects and operational matters. The upcoming oncology facility is expected to improve access to cancer treatment by allowing patients to undergo selected chemotherapy procedures closer to home, reducing the need for referrals to other centres.
Rane also reviewed the progress of work to operationalise the hospital’s fifth operation theatre, a development expected to increase surgical capacity and help meet growing healthcare demands in North Goa.
Apart from reviewing expansion plans, the minister assessed the functioning of various departments and discussed key operational issues with hospital officials. He also took stock of the recent electrical outage at the hospital, which had caused concern among patients and their families. An inquiry into the incident has been sought to establish the facts and determine whether corrective measures are required.
Expressing satisfaction over the hospital’s overall performance, Rane praised the efforts of Medical Superintendent Dr. Varsha Munj and the hospital staff for their dedication to patient care.
The minister said the government remains committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Goa through improved facilities, enhanced services and expanded access to specialised treatment. The proposed Oncology Day Care Centre and additional operation theatre are expected to further strengthen North Goa District Hospital’s role as a key public healthcare institution in the state.
