BENAULIM: Two days after landing in Kolkata to meet TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, NCP Leader and Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao today clarified that he has not decided on joining any party at the moment, and the same will be taken in the next two weeks.
Alemao also informed that he will join a force that will work to defeat the BJP in the coming elections.
“I want to make it clear, I have not taken any decision to join any party at the moment, I am still with NCP. I will take a decision in the next two weeks. And before joining any new party, I will arrange a meeting with all my voters and then come out on a decision,” said Alemao while addressing a press conference in South Goa.
After hobnobbing with BJP for the last five years, he now said he will join a party fighting to oust the BJP in the coming elections.
“I have never supported the BJP, I wanted all the Congress to come together and fight the BJP, but it seems like it is not working that way. We want to fight the BJP, and I can see only two options: Mamata Led TMC and Sharad Pawar NCP,” he added.
When asked about the details during his meeting with TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee, Churchill refused to reveal any details.
He added, “I can’t say now if I will join any other party or have an alliance. The decision will be taken in two weeks”.
There were rumours that Alemao, along with his daughter Valanka had met TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee yesterday. This development had triggered speculations of the NCP MLA joining the Trinamool Congress.
“Who told you I am joining the TMC? Nothing is finalized. Don’t listen to rumours. People may say whatever they want. I have not decided on anything yet.” he added.
For the last few days, rumour has been doing the rounds in political circles in Goa that Churchill was joining the TMC, as there was no response from the Congress with regard to an alliance.
“I have said earlier, I will take an appropriate decision at the right time. I will decide. I have my options open whether to join any party or go independent or anything’.
Referring to Congress inability to take a decision and has kept the party waiting for the past eight months, he said,” Two Ganesh and Diwali deadlines have gone by, but Congress is in no mood to decide about the alliance. Therefore, I have decided not to wait for Congress after November 29″.
NCP Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao had earlier disclosed that he had got an offer to join the TMC, but he was not interested. He said that he was happy in NCP and wouldn’t ditch his party just before the elections.
