PANAJI: Goa Medical College (GMC) Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar today informed that no new cases of black fungus have been reported in the state.
“As of now no new case of black fungus has been reported in the state. Out of the six cases, one person succumbed. I don’t have data to confirm any such cases in private hospitals but one private hospital has asked us to share the data on medication” said Dr Bandekar
He further said that his department has enough supply of required for treatment of such cases.
There is a silver lining to the grim Covid situation in the state. The number of daily admissions in GMC has been reduced by half in recent days. 68 patients were admitted in GMC in the last 24 hours as compared to as many as 135 admissions recorded a few days back.
Coming out with this information, GMC Dean Dr S M Bandekar said that there are over 30 beds vacant in the super specialty hospital at GMC. In all there 768 patients are taking treatment at GMC.
“No patient is made to sleep on the floor or on stretchers any more”, he said.
However, he took a safe stand over the query as to whether the second covid wave had started declining. Lets wait for a few more days to come to a conclusion, he said.
Meanwhile, Goa government has asked public to call helpline number 0832-2494545 to check for availability of beds in private hospitals.
