MARGAO: Markets of Margao are full of beautiful Christmas decorative items, but fewer people are turning towards, market fearing the recent news of the Omicron CoVID19 variant, which has given a scare to the people, says shopkeepers from the Margao market.
There are no restrictions imposed presently, the SOP’s have been loosening a bit, and the state is trying its best to come back to normalcy. But unfortunately, the recent hue and cry about the new CoVid19 omicron variant, which brought back the pandemic nightmare in the people’s minds, has now started indirectly affecting the small scale businesses from the market places.
Deepak Mane, a shopkeeper from the Margao market, said that he started getting customers to purchase beautification and decoration items from his shop. He said that post the Covid19 pandemic, people are in a happy festive mood and are coming into the market for making purchases ahead of the festival.
He also said that when the new variant of the CoVID virus surfaced a few days back, people were scared that there might be a lockdown, but later, things came back to normal.
Surendra Kalangutkar, another shopkeeper from Margao market, claimed that the market’s business is going slow compared to previous years. And the investments he has made in purchasing the stock has not been recovered yet.
He further added that people are scared due to the recent Omicron Covid19 variant discovered a few days ago in India. People, therefore, avoid coming to market and do purchases.
Although some locals were happy to see the good old days are back. Many locals were seen doing their festive shopping in the market. Although the number of people flocking in the market areas was less compared to past years.
