PANAJI: Amid simmering rumors on possible change in State leadership, the Kerala-designated Governor Rajendra Arlekar ruled out any such possibility.
Rajendra Arlekar, the Governor of Kerala, has denied rumors that he was offered the position of Chief Minister of Goa, stating that there was no such offer made to him.
Arlekar, who was earlier Bihar Governor, is set to take oath as Kerala Governor on January 2, 2025.
Goa remained upbeat in the last month of 2024 over rumors of change in State leadership with news making round that Arlekar likely to take over Chief Ministerial post from Pramod Sawant.
“I am not in race for any State political role in Goa; these are rumors; my responsibility is towards State of Kerala for now,” said Kerala-Governor designated Rajendra Arlekar after meeting Goa Governor P.S Sreedharan pillai
He further said that all Goans came to know that it was all rumour after I was transferred as Governor of Kerala.
“Its all rumours, I am clearly stating that I had not got any such offer for political post in Goa, all rumours are now put to rest,” he added
He also said that he was not running for a Political post in Goa, and these are all unfounded rumors.
Arlekar also said that he met Goa governor and discussed about Kerala culture and other things. He said that he had a fruitful discussion.
“Kerala and Goa share the same cultue. I always assist the state government. I do not guide or advice,” he added
The news of Arlekar taking over had emerged soon after Health Minister Vishwajit Rane paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Sawant, had recently maintained that there is no question of leadership change as State has been doing exceptionally well and there are no such issues or emergency that may force the Central high command to think of leadership change.
The Chief Minister was in the middle of allegation over cash for job scam. A social media campaign was also launched demanding CM’s resignation.
