Handwara: Security forces uncovered an old underground terror hideout in the dense forests of Nagda Nar in Handwara, North Kashmir, and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a joint operation.
The operation was launched early in the morning after security agencies received specific intelligence about a concealed hideout being used to store weapons. Handwara Police, along with personnel from the 21 Rashtriya Rifles and 92 Battalion of the CRPF, conducted a coordinated cordon and search operation in the forested area.
During the search, the joint team detected a well-hidden underground structure. Security personnel thoroughly searched the hideout before destroying it to prevent it from being used again.
The recovery included one AK-47 rifle, three grenades, 857 rounds of AK ammunition, 192 rounds of PIKA ammunition, eight AK magazines, one silencer and 83 pistol rounds. Other material linked to militant activities was also recovered from the site.
The hideout is believed to have been established some time ago and used as a weapons dump for terrorists operating in Handwara and nearby areas. The recovery of the cache is significant as the weapons could have been used in attempts to revive militant activity in the region.
Following the operation, an FIR has been registered at Handwara Police Station under relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway to establish the origin of the weapons, identify those who maintained the hideout and determine whether the cache was connected to any active militant network in the area.
