PANAJI: The United Opposition today alleged scam to the tune of Rs 1,000 crore in the coal block allotted to Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) at the Dongri Tal II coal block in Madhya Pradesh.
Opposition protested and walked into the well of the house when government sought postponement of the question related to coal block and Mhadei river issue despite placing answer to the Legislative Assembly Question(LAQ) on the floor of the house.
Opposition MLA Vijai Sardesai alleged that the government does not want discussion on the subject as they wish to appoint blacklisted consultant to fix mine-developer-cum-operator (MDO) directly as per their convenience.
Speaker adjourned the house twice after the noisy scene over the matter.
The Dongri Tal Coal block at Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh was allocated to Goa as a part of the fifth tranche of allotment by the Union Coal Ministry.
Goa government had elected a consultant to finalise the Request For Proposal (RFP) to appoint Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) for the Dongri Tal Coal Block in Madhya Pradesh allocated for state-run Goa Industries Development Corporation (GIDC).
Goa was supposed to ink the agreement with the ministry by October 30, 2019 but due to lack of funds, the GIDC decided to select an MDO, who could pay the performance and bank guarantee for the coal block on behalf of the state.
