PANAJI: The state administration has informed the Bombay High Court in Goa that a special WhatsApp group and number will be launched shortly to address the grievances of locals impacted by the Porvorim elevated road’s construction.
In addition to filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding the traffic congestion caused by the elevated corridor project on NH-66, specifically between Guirim Junction and Mall de Goa, with additional disruptions resulting from diversions, Porvorim residents have also filed an intervention application in the PIL, bringing up the issue of blocked drainage and sewage systems.
The Public Works Department (PWD) and the contractor were instructed by the court to make sure that sewage and drainage lines were cleared or constructed prior to the monsoon season, and the PWD official in attendance was instructed to make sure that the contractor followed safety protocols for the benefit of the public.
The PIL had asked the state government to fix safety flaws, build trauma care facilities, and carry out a thorough examination of the road system. In high-risk areas, the petition also promoted the use of contemporary traffic enforcement tools including speed cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) devices.
In order to reduce dust pollution, the court had previously ordered the contractor to sprinkling water on the work sites four times a day.
