PORVORIM: Porvorim Police have registered an offence following a complaint by Sanjay Pednekar of Carrem, Socorro, alleging that a man obstructed a Ganesh Visarjan procession and made derogatory and insulting remarks concerning Lord Ganesh and the religious beliefs of devotees.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on September 18 between 10.45 pm and 11 pm near Vetal Temple at Vaddem, Socorro, Porvorim, Bardez, North Goa. Pednekar stated that he was proceeding with other villagers and devotees towards Vaddem Lake for the immersion of the Ganesh idol when the alleged incident took place.
Police said the accused, identified as Michael Oliveria, allegedly disturbed and obstructed the procession and used abusive and derogatory language against the complainant and others. He also allegedly threatened them with consequences.
The complaint further alleges that the accused recorded and subsequently posted a video on social media containing the alleged abusive and derogatory remarks.
Porvorim Police registered the offence on September 22, 2026, at 4.13 am. A notice under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been issued to the accused.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Vignesh Naik of Porvorim Police Station.
