MARGAO: Traders from Maharashtra and Karnataka, who support poultry farmers and traders in Goa over the issue of sourcing birds from neighboring states, decided to oppose the move taken by a private association in Goa to restrict the procurement of birds from neighboring states.
Poultry traders from Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka called on Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to step in and resolve their issues during a joint meeting in Margao.
The poultry traders promised to provide Sawant with a new document updating him on the current state of affairs.
“In two days, we will have another meeting with the chief minister. Mario Valadares, a poultry farmer, stated, “We will voice our concerns and we hope that he will address the matter.”
It should be mentioned that a private organization that deals with birds has put restrictions on where birds can be sourced from neighboring states. In fact, they require a QR code scan in order to purchase them.
The All Goa Poultry Farmers and Traders Welfare Committee, established to address the difficulties faced by poultry traders in Goa, has received backing from the Karnataka Poultry Farmers and Traders Association and the West Maharashtra Poultry Farmer, Lifter and Traders Association.
“We fully support the cause of the aggrieved poultry farmers,” stated Santosh Malvikar, a member of the West Maharashtra Poultry Farmer, Lifter and Traders Association and a legal advisor. We support them. Vegetables and other businesses will be affected tomorrow if we permit meddling in the chicken industry now. This won’t be tolerated.
