PANAJI: The Congress-led Goa Rath Yatra, which has entered its 15th day, is set to receive a major boost with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi expected to join the campaign on October 12.
Congress leaders said Rahul Gandhi’s participation will be part of the party’s wider effort to highlight issues it says are affecting people across Goa, including unemployment, law and order, land-related legislation and alleged corruption.
Congress leader Manikrao Thakre said the yatra has already seen the participation of senior leaders, including K.C. Venugopal, Sachin Pilot, Alka Lamba and Pawan Khera. He said Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is scheduled to join the yatra on October 8, while Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to participate on October 17.
Congress MLA Yuri Alemao urged Goans to participate when Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi join the yatra and listen to the message of the party leadership. He said the programme would also recall Goa’s historic resistance against Portuguese rule.
Girish Chodankar said participants have covered nearly 100 kilometres on foot so far, with the distance increasing each day.
