Urges opposition MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar not to politicise garbage plant expansion issue.
PORVORIM: As the opposition to the Saligao garbage plant expansion intensifies, Minister for Waste Management Micheal Lobo has said that he is ready to drop the expansion project provided each panchayat handles and treat their own waste.
Lobo also urged the opposition MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar not to politicise garbage plant expansion issue.
“Till today Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar has never come to me regarding the issue of expansion of Saligao garbage plant. Also he has not written a letter to me on this issue too.
He said, “Don’t divert people’s mind, instead of that let us all sit and have a dialogue with proper discussion. He should come to me and tell what fears he has.”
Lobo further went to say that during this Covid situation opposition should try and divert people’s mind.
“This is serious issue, Jayesh should tell what he wants and what he doesn’t want. Also people should be taken into consideration of what they want. Leg Jayesh give me in writing to eliminate certain villages” Lobo added.
The Minister informed that the Saligao plant stinks because excess amount of garbage is getting treated at this plant. Plant’s capacity is 100 tonnes. However, 150 is getting treated and now when we want to expand the capacity, it is being objected.
It can be recalled that Saligao Village panchayat resolved to write to the Chief Minister and Waste Management Minister and convey their objection to the proposed expansion of the Saligao Waste Treatment Plant.
