MARGAO: The village Sanguem has erupted in joy following news their young villager Anil Gaonkar, a 25 years youth from Cotarlim, signed a deal with Kerala Blaster franchise for the upcoming season Indian Super League.
Anil started his football career at the age of 14 when he was selected to play for school team.
Later, the love for game grew stronger and he continued to follow his dream.
He joined Garden Angel Sports Club for first division and later joined Vasco.
For last four years he has been playing for Vasco Sports Club under the guidance of coach Micky Fernandes.
Anil, a right and left winger, is a very handy player said coach Micky.
Speaking to Goemkarponn Anil said he was elated after the big break.
“It’s a joyous moment for me, my family and entire Sanguem as I am the first player to play for ISL from Sanguem taluka. I always focused on my basics and fitness, my coach is my backbone, who helped me a lot to improve my skills. I am thankful to my coach for recommending my name to Kerala Blaster management and yesterday i signed a multi-year contract with the franchise,” he said.
He also said he would have loved to play for FC Goa but he hasn’t got an opportunity.
“My focus will be to be a better football player each day and make a mark around the globe. This is a golden opportunity for me to raise the name of my village all over the country,” he said.
Coach Micky Fernandes said that Anil had offers from different clubs across country.
