PANAJI: The state administration insisted that Karnataka is not currently working on the Kalasa-Bhandura project site to redirect the water from the Mhadei River into the Malaprabha basin.
Two years after its inaugural meeting in February 2023, the House Committee on Mhadei of the Goa Legislative Assembly convened on Wednesday.
The Committee unanimously decided to request Karnataka’s approval to conduct a ground verification inspection at the Kalasa-Bhandura site. The Committee has made the decision to write to Speaker of the Goa Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar to request permission to speak with its Karnataka counterpart.
Subhash Shirodkar, the WRD Minister and head of the committee, stated that the officers will visit the site in response to the environmentalist’s concerns. “But we noticed that there isn’t any work being done right now,” he stated.
“PRAWAH, the court, and politics are the three fronts on which we are fighting the Mhadei campaign. We have nothing to conceal. Shirodkar declared, “Everything is before the public,” adding that the Supreme Court would probably consider the case this week.
According to information obtained, the Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on the Mhadei case for the week starting on January 20.
According to the Minister, the Committee would write to the Speaker of Goa and ask him to write to the Speaker of Karnataka to request permission to visit the project sites. “The inspection will assist us in comprehending the reality on the ground,” he stated.
