Revenue minister Jennifer Monserrate and other accused in the case appeared before Session Court today as per the court’s directions. Babush Monserrate, who is also one of the accused, did not appear before the court today.
“Matter is in the High Court and has been kept for orders. The session judge said he would take up the order after the High Court decided. The decision of the High Court can come anytime this week, he added.
Panjim MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate and his wife Revenue Minister Jennifer, former Panjim Mayor Tony Rodrigues, are among 36 accused in the infamous 2008 attack on Panjim police station. The case has been pending in the High Court for the last seven years.
In a letter petition to the Administrative Judge of the High Court on November 9, Adv Aires Rodrigues had pointed out that the Supreme Court, being concerned about the criminalisation of politics, had directed that the criminal cases against politicians should be fast-tracked but that it had not happened in Goa at least in the Panjim police station attack case.
Monserrate, his wife Jennifer and others stand charge-sheeted by the CBI for having on February 19, 2008, attacked and damaged the Police Station.
