PANAJI: Minister and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo today sought Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s intervention to stop the growing harassment meted out to the tourists, visiting the State, by the traffic police.
Calangute MLA Michael lobo today had a meeting with CM Sawant over the issue of traffic police harrassing tourist and on the taxi issue.
“Today i have seen that traffic police are simply harrassing the tourists who takes cars and bikes on rent for no reason. One tourist is stopped for atleats 5 times in a day. This is not how we treat our tourist. Tourists coming into state is now a blessing in this pandemic times,” said Lobo after meeting CM
He further said that Chief Minister has intructed the Traffic Police not to harrass the tourists uncessary.
“It the problem of the rent a bike or car owner if the documents are not there, so why harrass them. If they are not wearing helmet or breaking any law then fine them and i agree with that,” he added
Lobo also said that it has also come to light some traffic police staff are trying to take transfers to coastal belt so that they can harrass tourists.
Speaking on taxi issue, Lobo said that he has directed the Chief Minister to make arrangements for reimbursement of funds for fixing digital meters.
“I have asked CM to reimburse the taxi operators batch wise so that taxi owners get their payments on time,” he said
