MOBOR: The Cavelossim village panchayat has expressed grave worries about recent assaults on tourists by stray dogs and requested assistance from the appropriate authorities to resolve the problem.
The Cavelossim village panchayat’s sarpanch, Dixon Vas, highlighted the community’s readiness to assist in finding a solution. Vas stated, “We are prepared to supply all required resources, including funding, but a suitable control and sterilization mechanism is required, along with the assistance of experts in the field.”
The reaction comes after a foreign visitor was mauled by a group of five dogs while out on his own along the Mobor beach area the day before. The issue of safety and security for tourists and other visitors to the area has once again been brought to light by this tragedy.
Dog attacks on visitors walking along the beach close to the mouth of the River Sal have been reported on several occasions this season along the Mobor-Cavelossim beach area. We’ve already taken action to solve the problem, such as working with a well-known resort to launch a dog shelter project as part of their CSR initiatives.
But, the Sarpanch clarified, “we have been told that the stray dog issue still affects the beaches, and in order to fully resolve it, we need the support of the concerned authorities.”
Vas also expressed worries about how stray dogs are affecting the local wildlife, specifically pointing out that the animals are disturbing and excavating turtle nesting grounds.
