PANAJI: In wake of recent murder, Shack owners have been instructed by the Tourism Department to shut operations by 11 p.m. every day and to make sure that any music played inside their establishments stays inside the designated area.
“We’ve seen that loud music is being played, and it’s disturbing people outside the shack area that has been marked off. Additionally, it has been noted that the beach shack’s operating hours are not being followed,” the circular released on Thursday by Tourism Director Kedar Naik said.
The Goa State Shack Policy for Erection of Temporary Seasonal Structures, Beach Shacks, and Deck Beds/Umbrellas for Tourist Season 2023-26, which includes noise pollution regulations, must be carefully adhered to by the shack owners.
It stipulates that the music must not disturb the neighbours and must only be heard inside the shanty.
The policy also mandates that shacks remain open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. It added that there would be consequences for the violations.
The circular also requests that shack owners promote Goan cuisine and music at their businesses.
