CURCHOREM/QUEPEM: Two cases of unnatural deaths were reported in South Goa on April 19, with police conducting inquests and further investigations.
In the first case, a 33-year-old man identified as Suraj Gaud, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was found dead inside a room allotted by a contractor in the basement of CHC Cacora, Curchorem. Police received information from the medical officer at around 10.43 pm that the individual had been brought dead.
During enquiry, it was found that the deceased was discovered inside the room, having used a scarf tied to an iron pipe installed for a ceiling fan. Police stated that he had been facing personal and family-related issues. The body has been preserved at CHC Cacora for medico-legal formalities. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Dinesh Gaonkar of Curchorem Police Station.
In another incident, a 47-year-old woman, Manjula Naik from Colomba, Quepem, was brought dead to PHC Quepem earlier in the day at around 4.20 pm.
Enquiry with family members revealed that she was found at her residence with a saree used as ligature material. An inquest was conducted, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination. The autopsy report stated the cause of death as asphyxia due to constriction of neck structures, while viscera samples have been preserved for chemical analysis.
The body was later handed over to the family for final rites.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Digamber Bondre of Quepem Police Station.
