PONDA: The blockade at the entrance of the market shed due to the construction of the third phase market complex has irked the vendors, who demanded answers from the PMC officials.
Irked Ponda Market shed vendors gheraoed PMC officials over issues of blockade of entrance passage to market and footpath vendors eating into their business. Following the vendor’s grievances, PMC officials assure to clear the pathway by Friday.
It may be recalled that digging for slab construction for the final phase of the PMC Market complex began; however, it blocked customers’ access to the vegetable market, which irked vendors operating in the market shed.
Thus, with no customers for them for the past one month after slab work began, the vendors inside the market shed gathered at PMC and protested against it, demanding to clear access for Market shed vendors. Around 300 vendors sitting idle after access to the vegetable market shed closed on account of the construction of the final phase of the new market complex.
The vendors told PMC Chief officer and Chairperson that they were not against the construction of slab and ramp for the market project, but while doing this work, the digging and construction work totally blocked the pathway of customers to the vegetable market as such they have no customers, and they are just paying daily sopo tax without customers.
The Chief Officer and Chairperson Geetali Talavalikar heard grievances and promised them that the pathway towards the market shed would be cleared by Friday.
