GALGIBAG: A 42-year-old visitor from Tamil Nadu sustained injuries after slipping on slippery rocks at Galgibag beach on Monday, prompting a swift rescue by Drishti Marine lifesavers.
According to Drishti Marine, the tourist lost his footing while walking across an unsafe rocky stretch near the beach and injured his left leg on sharp rocks. On-duty lifesavers immediately rushed to the spot, administered first aid and ensured the injured visitor received timely assistance.
The incident comes at a time when Goa’s beaches remain closed for swimming during the monsoon, with several risk-prone coastal areas declared off-limits due to rough sea conditions, strong currents and hazardous terrain.
Drishti Marine said it has deployed more than 450 trained lifesavers and beach marshals across Goa’s major beaches, waterfalls and four inland water bodies to respond to emergencies and assist visitors throughout the monsoon season.
Following the incident, the agency once again appealed to residents and tourists to avoid entering the sea and to stay away from rocky stretches, cliffs and other hazardous coastal areas. It also urged visitors to strictly follow red flags, warning signboards and the instructions of lifesavers on duty, cautioning that slippery surfaces and rapidly changing weather conditions can result in serious accidents even outside the water.
